Description: NAT SOUND GAVEL IN SENATE

The gavel resonates like a gunshot as it is hammered to symbolize the official end of the special session in the Senate.

Senate Pro Tem, Rob Mayer, says the House and Senate are miles apart from an agreement on an economic development bill.

Mayer expressed his displeasure with the end results of the session.

Run Time:  00:08
Description: "I wanted this to happen. No one is more disappointed or frustrated than I am. But I recognize that we're at a point where we're at a stalemate and we can't go forward."

Mayer says he hopes lawmakers can pass a tax credit reforms package during next Springs regular session.

Speaker of the House, Steve Tilley, says if the Senate has adjourned, then there is no reason for the House to come back.

Wrap: Two senators stopped a major economic development package from passing during the special session.

Senate Pro Tem, Rob Mayer, says a great distance remains between the Missouri House and Senate leaderships.

Mayer says the House is unwilling to accept the Senate's desire to include termination dates on tax breaks in new legislation.

Actuality:  MAYER26.WAV
Run Time:  00:05
Description: "The crux of the problem or the issue is sunsets and 7 year sunsets."

Mayer says he would like to see everyone take a step back from the legislation for a few weeks and be prepared to work when the regular session begins in early January.

Wrap: The Senate adjourned, crushing any hope that a jobs package be passed during the special session.

Senate Pro Tem, Rob Mayer, says the House and Senate remain far apart on an economic development package that would create more jobs in Missouri.

Mayer says the House and Senate need to come to an agreement to get Missourians back to work.

Actuality:  MAYER27.WAV
Run Time:  00:08
Description: "The important thing is to remember is that there's people out there that are wanting to go back to work and they're needing jobs, and so that'll be my focus."

Mayer says the inability to reach an agreement on tax credits has made it more difficult to work with the House on other issues and bills.
