Actuality:  BAHRA.WAV
Run Time:  00:12
Description: Ok, we're dealing with education dollars and this is just kinda an outlier that sits in the budget. Like, I get it's only federal dollars and it's not state, it's just an anomaly in our House Bill 2 [the education budget bill].

An education department deputy said that he too was surprised at first, but that Missouri ranks high in the nation for the work being done with these funds.

Wrap: Conservative Representative Kurt Bahr questioned why federal funds for Disability Determination falls under the Education Department rather than a social welfare agency.

Education Department representative Rick Longely did not have an answer.

Actuality:  BAHRC.WAV
Run Time:  00:05
Description: The the Department of Education knows better about disability that the Department of Social Services? That's not my call.

The deputy commissioner said the department does not have a choice in where the program resides, only that it has been efficient and effective.

Wrap: Republican Kurt Bahr challenged the Education Department regarding the funding for Disability Determinations.

Bahr questioned the purpose of having this program in the Department of Education rather than a social welfare agency.

Actuality:  BAHRD.WAV
Run Time:  00:10
Description: So I guess the question is, is this a fed requirement that must go through this department or can we as a state say hey, let's just move it over to a different department because it seems to make more sense for us.

A representative for the department said moving the funding could be possible, it would just take legislation to do so.
