State Capitol Bureau
Links: SB252

Intro:
The state Senate sent the Governor a bill banning the Department of Revenue from scanning and storing personal documents Wednesday.
RunTime:  0:37
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: The measure would ban the Department of Revenue from sending information to the feds.

It's a response to the controversy surrounding the department’s sharing of concealed carry data with the U.S. Social Security Adminstration.

The bill's sponsor Republican Senator Will Kraus said the ban would last as long as the department is involved in the permitting process.

Actuality:  KRAUS4.WAV
Run Time:  00:05
Description: “The Department of Revenue can’t scan those documents for the CCW as long as it stays with the Department of Revenue.”

A measure moving the entire concealed carry permitting process from the Department to county sheriff's offices is in a separate bill.

Reporting from the state Capitol, I'm Marie French.
