Initiative petition in circulation for 2010 ballot

Intro: Secretary of State Robin Carnahan approved the circulation of new intiative petition to eliminate affirmative action.

OutCue: SOC The ballot initiative would amend the state Constitution to ban goverment affirmative action. The chairman of the a missouri affirmative action advocacy group, Brandon Davis says the initiative would make changes that do not resonate with Missourians.

Description: I think people understand the real effort behind this policy and understand how detrimental it would be to the state and people don't like to see outside monied ininterest come into the state and buy changes in our Constitution.
Davis is the political director of the Missouri WeCAN Coalition. About 150,000 registered voters must sign the petition for it be placed on the signatures must be obtained. From the State Capitol, I'm Abigail Grimmett.
Intro: Just weeks after Americans elect the first black president, organizers who plan to ban affirmative action in Missouri won approval on Thursday to seek signatures for their petition.

OutCue: SOC The Missouri Civil Rights Initiative organization tried to get the initiative on the ballot before, but failed. Brandon Davis Chairman of the Missouri WeCAN Coalition, said the organization crossed lines to get it on the the ballot the first time the petition was in circulation.

Description: One of their signature gatherers earlier this year in Missouri was wanted in three states for fraudulent signature gathering. Continuous practice of telling Missourians that the initiative would do one thing when in actuality it meant another.

About 150,000 registered voters must sign the petition before it can be on the ballot.  The Missouri Civil Rights Initiative organization submitted the petition, but was unavailable for comment. From the State Capitol, I'm Abigail Grimmett.
