Tuesday, out of work employees from the Associated Wholesale Grocers found a spokesperson for their cause in the Missouri state capitol.
But, the voice was not of a legislator, instead it was Independent candidate for governor-hopeful, Larry Rice.
Renny MacKay has more about the Kansas City workers and their newfound ally.
Gary Hurd worked as a forklift operator for fifteen years at a Kansas City warehouse before his union's contract ended with the Associated Wholesale Grocers. The grocery company hasn't renewed the union's contract.
Tuesday, Hurd, his wife and three children came to the state capitol with a group of twenty other A-W-G workers and members of their families. They came to try and get support from legislators.
Larry Rice, the governor-hopeful spoke on their behalf and made a pitch for his election as governor.
Gary Hurd, had never met Rice before, or even heard him speak, but, he says the labor dispute he finds himself in may get him to vote for Rice.
In order to get on the ballot, Rice needs ten thousand signatures, he says he already has seven thousand, and will visit all 114 counties in Missouri before the election.
From Jefferson City, I'm Renny MacKay.
