Elections Committee passes resolution which seeks to change language of voter ID bill.

Intro: 
The House Elections Committee has passed a resolution that would require a goverment issued photo ID to vote in Missouri back on the ballot after it was thrown out in court last week.

Wrap:  House Speaker Pro Tem Shane Schoeller sponsored the resolution which removes the phrase "Voter Protection Act" from the proposed constitutional amendment.

Description: "I think we've all heard the debates regarding photo identification, I'm not here to debate that, I'm just here to respect what the courts said, and move forward and remove that so voters have the opportunity to vote on this in either August or November."

A Cole County Circuit Judge ruled the amendment invalid because the language on the ballot and the language in the text of the amendment differed.

Strong opposition came from Attorney Burt Newman of the American Civil Liberties Union.

House Leadership has put a Voter ID amendment on the fast track back to the ballots with a 7-3 vote Tuesday, which approves a resolution changing the language of the amendment.

Wrap: Last week a Cole County Circut Judge ruled the constituional amendment invalid for a statewide vote because the language on the ballot and the actual language of the amendment differed.

Republican St. Louis County Representative Don Gosen and Attorney Denise Libierman sparred over the issue during the hearing.

Libierman represented the plantiffs fighting the photo ID law, including her mother Joy, who testified against the legislation.
