Right to Work Bills Back Again

Date: January 17, 2012
By: Andrew Weil
State Capitol Bureau
Links: SB 438, SB 547

Intro:
Right to Work legislation is back again after failing during last year's session.
RunTime:  0:38
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: The Senate General Laws committee heard public testimony on two similar bills that would make it illegal for employees to be forced to join unions.

Republican Senate Leader Rob Mayer sponsors one of the bills.

Actuality:  MAYER.WAV
Run Time:  00:10
Description: "I believe that this is the single most important piece of legislation that we the General Assembly could pass to put Missouri on a solid path to economic recovery."

Other supportors say employees shouldn't be forced to pay money to a union that supports ideals they don't support while opponents say there is no evidence proving the state would see any economic growth through this plan.

Reporting from the State Capitol, I'm Andrew Weil.
