Missouri Department of Transportation has added restrictions to all red light cameras around the state

The Missouri Department of Transportation has unanimously voted to add some restrictions to all red light cameras in Missouri. Jamal Andress has more from Jefferson City.

Wrap: The restrictions proposed to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission include; only a certified officer can issue a ticket, warning signs must be posted about the camera, cities that have cameras must submit a data report annually and dedicate a month to making its residents aware.

Department commission member Joe Carmichael agreed with the idea of adding restrictions.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission unanimously approved the proposal.

St. Louis County Republican Senator Jim Lembke is sponsoring a bill to eliminate red light cameras statewide.

Wrap: St. Louis County Republican Senator Jim Lembke has been an active opponent to red light cameras since 2009. 

Lembke has sponsored three bills toward restricting and eliminating red light cameras in Missouri.

Lembke says the latest restrictions do not address all the problems with red light cameras.
