Wrap: Fourteen lives were claimed on Missouri roadways and waterways last Labor Day weekend in over 1,000 accidents.

The Missouri Highway and Water Patrols are beefing up enforcement this Labor Day weekend in an effort to make those numbers go down.

Officers will be out in full force with the biggest increase throughout Interstates 35, 44, 55, and 70, and U.S. Highways 60 and 63.

John Hotz is a spokesperson for the Highway Patrol.

He says a lot of the accidents over the holiday weekend will be alcohol related.

Description: "If you're going to drink we want to make sure you choose a safe way home and we want you to do that in advance. Unfortunately, some people wait until they've already been drinking before they decide how they're going to get home, and that's when we see bad decisions made."

Hotz also urges motorists and boaters to exercise caution during the crowded traffic this weekend.
