New bill would give some veterans free metered parking

Intro: One Mo. Representative has introduced legislation so veterans wouldn't have to pay for metered parking.

Some veterans would be excused from paying for metered parking under a new bill introduced by state Representative Jamilah Nasheed. The St. Louis City Democrat said it was her way of saying thanks to America's veterans.

Description: Well you know this was just a small token of appreciation to those that served in the military, for those that put their lives on the line. The least thing we can do is spare them 50 cents at the meter.


The legislation applies to POWs and those with gold, bronze, and silver stars as well as purple hearts.

It was a conversation with a constituent trying to park that inspired state Representative Jamilah Nasheed to file legislation that would permit some veterans to park for free. The St. Louis City Democrat has kept her promise.

Description: He was about to park and he said "Why do I have to put money into the meter." And "I served this country..."  I said, "Well, that's a good point. I'm a legislator, maybe I'll file legislation to help you out."


Representative Nasheed said she is confident the House will pass her bill.

One St. Louis City State Representative has introduced legislation excusing some veterans from have to pay metered parking. Democrat Jamilah Nasheed said although the bill does not apply to all veterans, it's token of gratitude to those have put their lives on the line.

Description: It's for veterans with statue. If you have a statue, if you have served in the military with a bronze star, POW, purple heart, a silver star, those are the individuals that get the opportunity to benefit from a no parking meter bill.

Representative Nasheed said she believes the house will pass the bill.
