Housing market slump meets Missouri brain-stormers.

 Intro: A group ranging from state legislators and contractors to bankers and assessors met in Jefferson City Tuesday to discuss the Wall Street mortgage crisis.

The committee is a hodge podge of individuals impacted by the financial slowdown.  

St. Louis Republican Representative Tim Jones was encouraged by the variety of opinions on the task force.

Description: It's vital. It's extremely important because if we have a weak link in the chain and we don't have all the parties working together, it's going to take a lot longer for the industry to turn around.

The task force plans to meet at least three more times before the end of the year with hopes of finding some concrete ways to initiate positive changes in the housing market.

Intro: A group of 16 people connected to the Missouri real estate market met Tuesday in Jefferson City in attempt to instill optimism in fearful consumers.

Tuesday saw the first meeting of the Interim Task Force on the Missouri Housing Market.

The task force consists of a diverse group of people all affected by Missouri real estate.

Private contractor and task force chairman Ken Stricker expressed why he felt it was crucial to talk about housing.

Description: It's kinda the backbone to our economy. So I think if there's anything we can do to improve, or you know, help consumer confidence, I think we want take a look at it.


Stricker also said the brainstorming session was very successful and looks forward to hearing what suggestions the task force comes up with next.

Bankers, builders, and buyers have all expressed concern with the slow housing market these days.

The task force gathered Tuesday to discuss ways the slump may be reversed.

Their goal is to establish measures that would help the government boost the housing economy.

According to St. Louis Republican Representative Tim Jones, establishing more rules and regulations is not necessarily the best way.

The task force even discussed drafting a bill to present to the Missouri House of Representatives in January..
