Intro: Extended debates postponed the bill that would constitutionally make English the language of offical proceedings. Fanna (FAUNA) Haile-Selassie (HIGH-lay-sah-LAH-say) was in the Senate to hear the debate. RunTime:

Description: You know what I think, I think you're trying to kill this bill. -Well of course I'm trying to kill this bill- At least you're honest.

Polarized arguments and what looked to be a possible filibuster with amendments, postponed the English only bill.

The bill would make a constitutional change to make English the language of official proceedings.

Saint Louis Democrat, Senator Jeff Smith challenged the sponsor of the bill Senator Kevin Engler.

He said this bill could be perceived as hostile toward immigrants.

Description: If people think there is a problem getting immigrants to learn English, let's put more research into programs like the International Institute that helps immigrants get jobs and become tax-paying members of the state.


Senator Engler said the bill is not dead yet and hopes to have the chance to discuss it again on the Senate floor.
