Governor orders Guard to help with tornado relief

The Missouri National Guard is once again mobilizing for disaster relief, and this time it's closer to home. Tim Walker has more from Jefferson City.

Governor Matt Blunt ordered fifty soldiers from the Missouri National Guard to help with tornado recovery efforts in Missouri.

The Storms that ripped through the Southern Missouri town of Caruthersville Sunday left one person dead and destroyed much of the city.

Guard spokesperson Captain Tammy Spicer says the troops will assist local authorities with security.

"The Missouri National Guard is known as a home town guard and so this is an opportunity for soldiers in Southeast Missouri to help their neighbors."
