State Senate advances medical technology measure

The Missouri Senate takes a step toward updating medical records technology.

Pharmacies might see a change in the way they access patients' medical records.

The Senate heard a measure Wednesday to create a fund to transfer Missourians' medical records from paper to an electronic form.

Senator Charlie Shields, the bill's sponsor, says he hopes the measure will aid Missourians in "underserved areas."

"Probably the greatest opportunities out there are in two places: they're in the urban core and they're in rural Missouri.

I mean, that's where we need a lot of this technology built in."
