Right now the law in Missouri allows a driver to have a blood alcohol content of up to point 1 percent. This worries Republican Senator Morris Westphal, who is sponsoring the bill.

But there's a reason beyond safety that the supporters of this bill have for wanting it to pass...Money. Missouri will receive millions of dollars from the federal government for highway construction if it passes this bill.

On Wednesday it was passed out of the Senate Transporation Committee and is on the way to the Senate. But, it's going without an open containers provision that was in the original bill. The committee voted to amend the bill and remove that wording.

Many of the opponents of the bill were troubled by the open container provision.

Governor Holden gave his support to the bill during the state of state address and Anheuser Busch announced for the first time that they wouldn't lobby against the bill.
