Commission on St. Louis Growth, Ground to Halt

A commission to look at the growth of St. Louis, won't see daylight, according to the commission's proponent.

St. Louis legislator Ron Auer's proposal met with a lot of opposition.

His proposed bill would form a commission to discuss and file reports about St. Louis's growth.

Auer proposed a similar bill last year and it was voted down. He says he expects a similar fate for this bill.

Contents: He says he isn't optimistic about the bill passing this session, and that more education is necessary for it to pass.

The people he thinks need to be educated are the opponents of the bill.

They say the bill is unnecessary and a commission can meet without state approval. And they say the city of St. Louis needs to make more improvements before the state gets involved.

Representative Ron Auer from St. Louis proposed a plan to form a commission that would study the city's growth for the second year in a row.

But, the proposal met with a lot of opposition again this year. Auer (OW-urr) says he isn't hopeful about the bill passing this year either because of the high level of opposition.

The plan's sponsor, representative Ron Auer (OW-urr) says he doesn't have much hope for his plan to form a commission to look at the growth of St. Louis.

The commission would make reports about issues from regional planning to education.

Brent Evans from the West Counties doesn't think the commission is a good idea.
