Representative Jim Murphy says Anita Yeckel broke the law by accepting contributions from the law firm of former judge John Bardgett, Sr. and from John Bardgett, Jr.

Bardgett Sr.'s firm represented SSM health care, who got approval Monday to build a women's hospital in Chesterfield.

Yeckel was a member of the committee that approved the plan and voted in favor of it.

The committee's rules state no member is allowed to accept a donation from anyone involved with a case that is pending a committee decision.

But Bardgett says the check was written in July and his firm's involvement with SSM didn't occur until September.

He says that means this isn't a violation. From the capitol, Aaron Cummins reporting.
