Wine Taxes

February 4, 1998
By: Nathan Byrne
State Capital Bureau

Missouri lawmakers are proposing a bill that would have wine drinkers paying for wine advertising. Nathan Byrne has the story in Jefferson City.

Missouri wine producers may be paying taxes to fund the promotion of their own wines. While the makers of the wine would be footing the bill, their revenue ultimately comes from the wine consumer.

But wine producers argue drinkers wouldn't pay.

The consumer won't be alone in paying for the advertising of Missouri wines. Out-of-state wine producers would chip in, as well.
