Missouri Tests National Influenza Containment Plan

Missouri will be the site this week of for a test of the national plan to deal with flu outbreaks. Liz Cafer has the story in Jefferson City.

Health Experts expect to see a worldwide influenza outbreak in the future, and the health department wants to be prepared.

That's why Missouri is holding FLUEX '98.

It's an exercise to test the national plan for containing a flu outbreak. State Health Department spokesperson Nanci Gonder says a new strain of influenza could spread quickly without preparation.

Actuality:


"In our mobile society, it could be transmitted around the world literally in a matter of hours with people hopping on airplanes and going halfway across the world."

Gonder says the last worldwide outbreaks occurred in the 1960s and 70s. In Jefferson City, I'm Liz Cafer.
