Presidential Primary Pushed

February 2, 1998

State Capital Bureau

A presidential primary would be established in Missouri if Secretary of State, Rebecca Cook has her way. Adrienne Huth reports from the State Capitol.

Currently, Missouri voters choose their parties' presidential candidates through a caucus system. If a primary system were implemented, Cook feels the public would be more involved since primaries are advertised and that voter turnout would increase.

Cook says that a primary would be more cost effective because it would be held in conjunction with local elections in April.
