Auto Theft Dips in Missouri

Auto theft in Missouri has dropped from last year. Tracy Sadeghian has the details from Jefferson City.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Almost 23-thousand cars were reported stolen in Missouri in 1996.

And auto theft has decreased by 4-percent since 1995.

But Missouri Insurance Information Spokesman Calvin Call says auto theft is costing the state...

Contents: "For each unit that's stolen the average is around 5-thousand dollars, you take that times the total number of vehicles stolen and it adds up to a 117-million dollars lost in the State of Missouri last year."

Oldsmobile Cutlass, Chevrolet Caprice, Oldsmobile Delta, Chevrolet Cavalier, Ford Escort led the pack as the most frequently stolen cars.
