The Governor's proposal to cut the sales tax by one-quarter percent is going nowhere in Missouri's legislature. Kimberly Lohman (low-man) in Jefferson City has this report.

Senate Ways and Means committee chairman Harry Wiggins says he is certain a bill to cut taxes will go to the Governor this year.

But Wiggins also says every tax cut proposal is up in the air because Republicans and Democrats can't agree on how much taxes should be cut and who should benefit from a decrease.

House Ways and Means committee chairman Ken Jacob wants to reduce taxes on groceries, although he says agreement on the tax bill is politically impossible.

Legislators will have to quickly resolve their differences before this session ends in mid-May if Missourians are going to see their taxes cut.
