Democrats like Assistant Minority Floor Leader Tishaura Jones say the measure would discourage women from seeking public office and keep them away from politics.
During the House debate, Rep. Tishaura Jones, D-St. Louis City, called the amendment "out of scope" and "shameful," saying the amendment's purpose did not align with the bill.
"When you take an all or nothing approach, the people usually end up with nothing," said Assistant Minority Leader Rep. Tishaura Jones, D-St. Louis County.
