A presentation on solar power produced a contentious moment between Henry Rentz, founder of Missouri Valley Renewable Energy, and Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar.
People wearing "Fair Tax" buttons filled the senate committee room in support of Republican Representative Ed Emery's bill that would get rid of income tax, but raise sales tax.
The amendment, sponsored by Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar, states that a pharmacy can't be sued for not carrying medication, and says the state cannot revoke a license if a pharmacy does not carry certain medication. It specifically mentions Plan B, an emergency contraception drug that can prevent pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, and RU-486, the drug used to induce an abortion.
On the opposite side of the aisle, Republican bill sponsor Ed Emery says the bill would spur job growth while forcing illegals who don't pay income taxes to pay sales taxes.
"I think in the long run, this provides us the lowest cost electricity," said Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar, who serves as the committee chair. "It's a safe generation; it's a clean generation."
