The other Springfield Senate seat is being contested by Democratic Rep. Craig Hosmer and Republican Rep. Norma Champion. Like Kreider, Hosmer is thought to have as good a chance as any Democrat in the heavily Republican district. Also working for Champion is her status as something of an icon in the area, having hosted a local television program for many years.
"For people to make intelligent decisions about nursing home placement, there needs to be as much information available towards public safety as possible," said the bill's sponsor, Rep. Craig Hosmer, D-Springfield.
JEFFERSON CITY -Rep. Craig Hosmer, D-Springfield, needed money. He wanted to put back funds for alcohol and drug control that had been taken out during the budget process. So he decided to take money from state courts.
Term limits make this the last House session for Rep. Craig Hosmer, D-Springfield. But he said that has not changed what he sees as his duty as a lawmaker.
Farnen proposed an amendment that would give the state's four regional universities the name "Missouri State University" followed by the school's location. Farnen said each of the schools had statewide missions and that if a name change was made it should be across the board. The bill's sponsor, Rep. Craig Hosmer, D-Springfield, said the amendment, which was defeated 79-46, was an attempt to derail the legislation.
The bill is now before the House Criminal Law Committee. The committee's chairman -- Rep. Craig Hosmer D-Springfield -- said that things like this shouldn't happen again.
Rep. Craig Hosmer says that even though there are a few cases where the no-compete clause would be proper, it is not used in that manner and therefor should not be allowed.
Representative Craig Hosmer from Springfield has introduced legislation to make that possible for teachers, insurance agents and other licensed professionals.
"This is a 3-year clock that keeps ticking," said the bill's sponsor, Rep. W. Craig Hosmer, D-Springfield. "And every year we don't do something, we lose more people that we can't prosecute."
A number of democrats like Springfield representative Craig Hosmer have reservations about the plan even though he acknowledges the tough financial situation facing the state.
