In addition to Lembke and Purgason, the fiscal conservative gang included Sen. Jason Crowell, R-Cape Girardeau, Sen. Jane Cunningham, R-St. Louis County, Sen. Will Kraus, R-Jackson County, Sen. Brian Nieves, R-Washington, Sen. Luann Ridgeway, R-Smithville, Sen. Brad Lager, R-Savannah, and Sen. Rob Schaaf, R-St. Joseph.
The movement of Cunningham's district would have required her to run against Sen. Brian Nieves, R-Washington, in the 26th district, but Nieves' district is not up for reelection until 2014.
Cunningham's term expires in 2012 and can only run in an odd-numbered district. Her house has been drawn into Sen. Brian Nieves', R-Washington, district, but Nieves is not up for reelection until 2014.
The Senate Education Committee did not vote on the bill to expand charter schools, but they didn't attempt to hide their support for it. Sen. Brian Nieves, R-Washington, thanked Father Francis Doyle, a pastor at St. Peter's Church in Jefferson City, for his testimony in support of the bill.
