Wrap: MoDOT Crews will be watching the weather extra closely as forecasters call for the rain to turn into a wintery mix.

The MoDOT maintenance engineer for St. Louis is Becky Allmeroth. She says crews will be ready to go as soon as the temperature drops.

Actuality:  ALL1.WAV
Run Time:  00:05
Description: "This is one of those where we just have to play it by ear and have the trucks ready to go as soon as we see the precipitation changing over."

Allmeroth also says black ice is common when temperatures drop and the roads are already wet.

Wrap: MoDOT officials say trying to pretreat wet roads in front of possible winter weather would be a waste of resources because the treatments would just wash away.

Becky Allmeroth is the district maintenance engineer for the St. Louis region. She says these unusual weather events that bring both rain and snow keep crews watching the weather extra closely.

Actuality:  ALL2.WAV
Run Time:  00:05
Description: "It usually happens a couple times a year that we have an event that's like this. It's just one of those events that keeps us on our toes."

Allmeroth says whenever the temperature dips below freezing, crews will hit the road.
