Wrap: A handful of high-ranking Missouri Republicans including Senate Majority Floor leader Tom Dempsey and Senator Kevin Engler joined Democratic Saint Louis City Representative Jamilah Nasheed in support of local control for the Saint Louis Police Department.

Engler, who's finishing up his last term in the Senate, says they've bent over backward to make sure local control wouldn't affect police officers retirement and other problems previously brought up...

Another Republican, Southwest Missouri Representative Shane Schoeller says local control is just common sense.

Wrap: During Missouri's veto session, Republican Senate Majority Floor Leader Tom Dempsey joined a bi-partisan group of legislators calling for local control of the Saint Louis Police Department.

During the press conference, Dempsey discussed how he used to serve on a House committee in jefferson city that dealt with local police issues from back in Saint lousi.

Dempsey also says he hopes Missouri vote to approve local control in the upcoming election.

Missourians will have a chance to vote on the plan, when it appears as PROPOSITION A during November's election.

And Nasheed says this is the best way to bring local control back to the city...

Republican Saint Louis County Representative Gary Fuhr and Democratic Saint Louis County Senator Maria Chapelle-Nadal both refused to comment on local control.
