With more rain on the forecast, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon activates 200 members of the Missouri National Guard to help with flood aid and levee damage in southeastern Missouri.
RunTime:  0:44
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: Troops will assist with debris pick-up, traffic control, and door-to-door safety checks.

Poplar Bluff Mayor Ed DeGaris says the city is witnessing conditions very similar to a 2008-flood.

He says some city businesses are already flooded and how the National Guard will help.

Actuality:  DEGARIS2.WAV
Run Time:  00:14
Description: "Where if the water continues to rise, and according to the estimates it looks like it will, for evacuation, just have things ready and watch local media and be ready to evacuate; have them prepared."

DeGaris says the city's already done some sandbagging and put up a portable levee wall.

Missouri National Guard Major Tammy Spicer says the National Guard is not mobilized until Missouri exceeds its local resources.

Wrap: Now, guard troops will help with traffic control, sandbagging, door-to-door safety checks, and any kind of levee-control.

Missouri National Guard Major Tammy Spicer says everyone's been watching the weather and it was only a matter of time until troops were mobilized.

Actuality:  SPICER1.WAV
Run Time:  00:13
Description: "The Missouri National Guard is not mobilized until Missouri exceeds its local resources. So, after local authorities can no longer provide the response they need, they let the governor know."

Spicer says troops are prepared to offer any support Missourians need.

She says they are working hard to mobilize the required soldiers needed.
