Wrap: A similar bill was introduced in 2006, but the Supreme Court found it to be unconstitutional.

Democratic Representative Jeff Roorda of Barnhart said Missouri has come a long way to expand the right to vote, and requiring an ID is an unnecessary obstacle.

Run Time:  00:15
Description: "It's a solution in search of someone to take our prejudices out on because I'll tell you what I think this is directed directly at minorities and it's no less shameful than the poll taxes and Jim Crow laws that we once had in this country."

Those in favor of this bill said it will make voting easier and will reduce voter fraud.

Wrap: The bill calls for a two-week advanced voting period before election dates and requires voters to present a photo ID in order to vote.

Bill sponsor Republican John Diehl of St. Louis County said the bill is a commonsense approach to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat.

Actuality:  DIEHL2.WAV
Run Time:  00:11
Description: "We know for a fact that every year there are hundreds if not thousands of fraudulent and bad, potentially bad voter registrations turned in."

Although those in favor of the bill think it is a step in the right direction, some Democrats say it is like a Jim Crow law.
