It was western Missouri Republican Mike McGhee who sponsored the amendment to require prison time to anyone who sells or buys drugs in front of a child.

But the idea came under attack from Jackson County Democrat Michael Brown:

Actuality: DRUGS.WAV
Run Time: 00:24
Description: Brown questions how the state can afford more prisoners. McGhee asks how the state pays for infants harmed by being near drug users.

The bill with McGhee's amendment won first-round approval from the House and faces one more vote before going to the Senate.
