. The Kansas City Star reports another federal investigation into Missouri state government. (04/17/06)

JEFFERSON CITY - The Star reported Saturday in a front-page story that there is a federal investigation into the state administration's awarding of fee offices to handle various services of the state Revenue Department.

Fee office contracts are awarded to private companies to provide services such as driving license and license plate applications. Operators of fee offices are allowed to charge an extra fee for the services.

The Star's story did not name a source. On Thursday, the Star reported a federal investigation had been launched into lobbying activities in Missouri state government.

. Senate prepares to decide on legislation that would offer medical assistance to some disabled workers (04/14/06)

JEFFERSON CITY - As soon as next week, the Missouri Senate will decide on a bill that would restore medical assistance to certain disabled workers.

This legislation, already passed in the House would renew some of the Medicaid cuts of the 2005 legislative session.

    JEFFERSON CITY - A bill changing the eminent domain regulations passed 154-4 on Thursday.

    But some legislators argued that the changes go far enough.

    JEFFERSON CITY - Attorney General Jay Nixon announced a settlement agreement from mid-Missouri based Amega on behalf of home owners who say they were ripped off.

    Nixon says he expects almost one hundred percent restitution for those claiming loss.

    JEFFERSON CITY - The House debate over eminent domain in Missouri went late into the night.

    An overwhelming majority voted to essentially continue developers' leverage to use eminent domain for economic development.

    By overwhelming margins, the House rejected two amendments to curtail use of eminent domain to take private property for economic development.

    JEFFERSON CITY - MoDOT is building a storehouse to house the artifacts it finds while building new roads.

    The bill would prevent the system from increasing tuition above the consumer price index.

    JEFFERSON CITY - President Bush visted Jefferson City Tuesday to watch seniors sign up for the new Medicare Part D plan, as well as discuss it's details and benefits.

    Bush says he wants to keep a committment to seniors that began during the Johnson Administration.

    As Bush spoke to a crowded audience, others questioned whether the president is becoming a liability to the Republican Party.

    . The Missouri Senate gives initial approvement to Medicaid Fraud bill (04/11/06)

    JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Senate advanced a Medicaid fraud bill on Tuesday, the same day that Governor Matt Blunt appealed to the body for swift action on the same legislation.

    The bill, SB 1210, would give intentives to whistleblowers that implicate those guility of Medicaid fraud and also increase penalties on offenders.

    JEFFERSON CITY - Rep. St. Onge's bill would double the fines of drivers convicted of a moving violation in a work zone.

    JEFFERSON CITY - Proposed legislation would allow the Missouri Department of Agriculture to give loan money for Vermiculture operations in the state.

    Vermiculture, better known as worm farming, uses worms in a process which creates organic fertilizers.
