Treasurer May Exclude Family Planning Center From Program.

The Missouri State Treasurer may exclude family planning centers from a state funded low interest loan program.

Tim Walker has more from Jefferson City.

State Treasurer Sarah Steelman says that the expanded program will provide nearly three quarters of a billion dollars to banks for low interest loans.

But when asked, Steelman said family planning centers may not be able to participate in the program.

"The legislature has made clear that they do not want any tax dollars funding family planning clinics or abortions. So I think it's a legitimate concern as to whether you would be placing a deposit, or a loan would be used to do that."

Steelman says she will not exclude an application from a family planning center, but that a criteria does exist for all businesses applying for a loan.
