The state House opened debate on a bill to slash Medicaid funding.

Travis Thompson has more from the state Capitol.

The bill is a key part of Governor Matt Blunt's plan to cut Medicaid funding.

Blunt's plan would toss an estimated 100,000 people off Medicaid rolls.

Republican Representative Jodi Stefanick is handling the bill in the House and says Medicaid is out of control.

Contents: "At what point do we stop with the growth of the program and try to look at what is actually causing the problem instead of constantly trying to just put more people on in hopes that maybe one of these times it'll turn around and everything will be fixed."

The bill would eliminate Medicaid in 2008.

Opponents of the bill say the bill would leave thousands of Missourians without health care.

The Senate passed the bill last month.
