The Missouri Earthquake Commission can finally meet a few weeks after KMOX disclosed the fact it hadn't been able to in more than a year.
Jade Mingus has more from Jefferson City.
Governor Blunt appointed Charles Juden of Sikeston to the Missouri Earthquake Commission.
The Commission hasn't met since September of 2004..because it didn't have the nine members needed to hold a meeting.
Spokesperson for the Governor..Spence Jackson says the Governor didn't appoint anyone until now because he was looking for someone qualified.
" You want to make sure you are putting individuals on that can contribute in a positive way to the commission's mission."
The total is now at thirteen.. Jackson says the House and Senate appointed the other commission members.
Blunt will appoint the other four open slots.

A few weeks after KMOX ran a story about how the Missouri Earthquake Commission couldn't meet.. Governor Blunt appointed a member.

From September 2004 until now...the Missouri Earthquake Commission was unable to meet.
Blunt appointed Charles Juden of Sikeston that means the committee has the nine needed to hold a meeting.
Spokesperson for the Governor..Spence Jackson says Blunt was looking for someone qualified.
Jackson says the House and Senate appointed the other commission members.
That makes the current total at thirteen...four short of a full commission.

Governor Blunt has appointed a member to the Missouri Earthquake Commission...it can finally meet after being unable to for more than a year.
Jade Mingus has more from the state Capitol.
Governor Blunt appointed Charles Juden of Sikeston to the Commission that oversees Missouri's earthquake preparedness.
September 2004 was the last time this committeee met....that's because they didn't have the nine members necessary for a meeting.
Spokesperson for the Governor..Spence Jackson says Blunt looks for specific things in potential members.
"A background in emergency response, and law enforcement. The kind of skills that would be beneficial in the event that an earthquake happened."
There are now thirteen members on the commission..the House and Senate both appooint one of them.
Blunt will appoint the other four open positions.
