In a vote that stayed fairly close to party lines, the push to change the name of Southwest Missouri State was voted down by the House. Before voting on the bill, Representative Bryan Pratt warned his colleagues that this vote could have greater future implications than they realized.
"This is all about the money. When they come to the appropriations committees in future years, I can't wait to see the looks on your faces when requests are made to fund a statewide system."
The bill is still alive in the Senate but only on condition that the University of Missouri receives more than one hundred and ninety million in bond money.
