The Chairman that oversees Missouri homeland security says his committee is considering state employee background checks due to the investigation of a relief agency in Columbia.
Jade Mingus has more from the Capital.
The Islamic American Relief Agency in Columbia is under FBI investigation for potential terrorist links.
The executive director of the relief agency, Mubarek Hamed, is also an employee of the Department of Natural Resources.
The Chairman of the Legislature Terrorism Committee, John Griesheimer, says the Department of Natural Resource is not at fault because employee background checks are not required.
"Um, personally I don't blame them for hiring him, right now I certainly don't, because that person has not been charged with a crime or anything."
But Griesheimer also says that the Legislature Terrorism Committee will discuss state employee background checks next time it meets.

The State Legislature Terrorism Committee is considering state employee background checks due to the recent investigation of a Department of Natural Resources employee.

Mubarek Hamed is the executive director of the Columbia Islamic American Relief Agency that is under FBI investigation.
Hamed is also an employee of the Department of Natural Resources.
The Chairman of the Terrorism Committee, John Griesheimer, says the Department of Natural Resources is not to blame because of state employee hiring practices.
"We need to maybe discuss this at the next meeting whether or not we need to require background checks for state employees."
Griesheimer also says that the state can not discriminate if it started requiring background checks.
