Missouri minors may no longer be able to get abortions in states with no parental consent laws

Missouri minors might not be able to cross state lines for an abortion in a state without parental consent laws--if a bill in Jefferson City moves forward.

The Senate gave first round approval to a bill that would outlaw taking minors to other states in order to avoid Missouri's parental consent law. The bill is in response to abortion advertisements in Illinois phone books.

Actuality:LOUD1.WAV
RunTime: 9
OutCue: "parental relationship"

Contents: "Illinois abortion clinics are actually marketing to Missouri teens saying the heck with Missouri's law. COme over to ILlinois and we'll help you violate Missouri's law and that parental relationship."

Opposers of the bill, including Democratic Leader Senator Ken Jacob, say the important issue is to prevent the pregnancies with family planning before abortion becomes a consideration.
