Senate amendment significantly increases parent liability for child crimes

In the shadow of a six-year old shooting a classmate in Michigan, the Missouri Senate approved an amendment increasing parent liability for child crimes.

Laetitia Thompson has the story from the state capitol.

The amendment increases parental liability from two-thousand dollars to twenty-thousand dollars for both property damage and personal injury.

Calling the first grade shooting a tragedy, Republican Senator Marvin Singleton used the Michigan shooting to explain why the amendment is needed.

The amendment is part of a broad judicial bill pending in the Missouri Senate.
