Missouri's Senate has put off until next week a decision on whether to accept that pay increase recommended by a citizens commission last fall. Phill Brooks has the story from Jefferson City:
The Senate's action lease lawmakers just five days to get something passed -- or they automatically will get the pay increase without having to take any vote.
That's a prefect opportunity for a filibuster. But Senate President Pro Tem Bill McKenna says he's not trying to stop a vote:
McKenna has proposed that they reject the pay hike for themselves and judges -- but accept the increase recommended for the daily expense allowance.
The Senate will resume debate on that issue on Monday. If they keep talking until Friday, the pay increases automatically will take effect.
