Missourians living in rural areas may see an increase in the number of physicians in their area. Denise Jackson has the story from Jefferson City.
A Senate committe heard a bill that would require HMOs to accept any doctor who is willing to practice in medically underserved areas.
Kansas City representative Mary Bland, the sponsor of the bill, says the legislation would also benefit doctors who are currently practicing in these areas.
Opponents of the bill say the legislation will cut right into the heart of managed health care.
The bill was introduced last year.
