Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City has run into roadblocks in the company's effort to become a for-profit organization. Kelly Just has the story from Jefferson City.
After three hours of heated floor debate, Senators failed to vote on a bill that would let the non-profit Kansas City Insurance company switch to a for-profit operation.
St. Louis County Senator, John Schneider was the most outspoken opponent of the measure.
He suggests Blue Cross/Blue Shield is trying to rip off the public by keeping tax benefits received from the government while operating as a non-profit group.
Bill Sponsor, Phil Curls Senior says his measure simply levels the playing field for the Kansas City company with St. Louis Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
That company became a money-maker two years ago.
From the State Capitol, I'm Kelly Just.
