Three of the state's top county prosecutors have called for an investigation into how the state attorney general's charges against the House Speaker were leaked to the media. Phill Brooks has the story from Jefferson City:
The statement was issued by the prosecutors for St. Louis, Jackson and Cole counties.
Their report rejected the Attorney General's charges that there were grounds for prosecuting the House Speaker for his ties to riverboat gambling.
Cole county prosecutor Rich Callahan conceded that their public statement was unusual, but warranted by disclosure of Jay Nixon's charges against the House Speaker:
The prosecutors' report did not explicitly blame Nixon for the leak of his charges against Griffin.
But the three prosecutors went at some length in their report explaining why it would be a violation of professional standards for the attorney general's letter to have been leaked by government lawyer.
