By: Jacob Cavaiani
State Capitol Bureau

Intro:
Bills on expanding access to education and reforming drug treatment courts in Missouri have advanced... in lawmakers' special session.
RunTime: 0:40
OutCue: SOC

Wrap: Both bills passed through their committees on Tuesday.

The full Missouri House is expected to take them up on Wednesday.

Gov. Mike Parson vetoed the education and drug treatment court bills because of problematic language he found in them.

St. Louis Democratic Rep. Gina Mitten says drug treatment courts are important across the state.

Actuality:  MITTEN21.WAV
Run Time: 00:10
Description: Any actions we can take as members of the General Assembly to help provide treatment instead of punitive action to those who are suffering from substance dependency – I applaud.

The bill still needs the approval of the full House... and the Senate.

The special session is expected to wrap up by the end of the week.

From the state Capitol, I'm Jacob Cavaiani.
