Lyft released a statement saying the vote, "moves Missouri one step closer toward an economy that brings riders more options and drivers greater economic opportunity.

Republicans say Missouri should support the free-market innovation of ridesharing companies.

The Missouri Senate Transportation Committee approved the measure by a four to one vote.
