Intro:
The Missouri House approved Tuesday reducing medical damage charges from an accident
RunTime: 0:42
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: A measure to limit court awards for medical bills passed the General Assembly.

The Senate bill would limit court awards for medical  damages to the amount paid, instead of a lawyer's established value. The measure also allows insurance payments be credited from court awards.

Republican Representative Jay Barnes said the measure is built to require those insured to pay more.

Actuality:  BARNES2.WAV
Run Time: 00:08
Description: It reduces the consequences of those who recklessly endanger the lives of others, drunk drivers and people who assault others.
Supporters said lawyers such as Barnes now inflate damages to earn themselves a larger cut.

The bill passed the House and is now in Governor Jay Nixon's hands.
