Wrap: As the city of Ferguson enters into an expensive legal battle with the U.S. Justice Department, one Missouri lawmaker is proposing a bill that would decide who would foots the bill.
Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, whose district includes Ferguson, bills is pending before a Senate committee that would, if passed, not hold the state of Missouri responsible for paying the debts of cities that become bankrupt. This would mean that Missouri could not 'bail out' Ferguson if the city is forced to pay a hefty lawsuit.
Chappell- Nadal has been very vocal about civil rights issues in Missouri. While she says the lawsuit needed to happen, she does not believe that Missouri should pay for it.
If passed the bill would go into effect August 28, 2016.
