Run Time:  00:11
Description: I recognized that we are one of the few states of the union where it's allowed to fire someone strictly because they're gay. That's wrong. That is discriminatory.

Wrap: Farmington Republican Representative Kevin Engler made a strong speech on the House floor Wednesday saying he wanted to add sexual orientation to the list of minorities protected by law.

Actuality:  ENG2.WAV
Run Time:  00:17
Description: I don't have enough votes. I proposed it last year to add sexual orientation to this discrimination. But I would hope that if I am still here for three more years, sometime during that period, it will be added to this piece of legislation.

The bill ended up gaining first round approval despite Engler's concerns.

He also voted for the bill.

Wrap: Former Senate Majority Leader and current Representative Kevin Engler gave a strong speech on the House floor Wednesday saying he wants sexual orientation to be added to work place discrimination law.

The comments came while lawmakers debated a bill raising the burden of proof for employees who file discriminatory lawsuits.

Actuality:  ENG3.WAV
Run Time:  00:13
Description: So I'm going to vote for this bill because it needs to be done, the level needs to be raised to show people that you're firing them because of that reason, but we should be including sexual orientation in this.

The House gave the bill initial approval.
