House finalizes dairy revitalization bill

The first issue to be approved in both the House and Senate would provide scholarship opportunities to students who want to pursue a career in agriculture

Wrap: The goal of the bill is to encourage younger Missourians to work within the agriculture industry with the hope of increasing the state's milk production. Representative Sonya Anderson R-Springfield said Missouri's dairy industry is in trouble.

Description: "We now import 60 percent of our milk and I feel this percentage will increase if Missouri's dairy industry continues its rapid decline."

Anderson added that Missouri was once a dairy sufficient state but now only has 1200 inspected dairy farms left within the state.

The bill would create 80 scholarships accepted at any college or university in Missouri for students in agriculture related degree programs.
