Wrap: Under the Senate bill, public money would go towards funding private educations in unaccredited districts.

Senator Jason Holsman argued the bill is unfair to students who can't get in to private schools.

Actuality:  HOLS1.WAV
Run Time:  00:18
Description: "Does bleeding the public resources to private sources make it better for all children to go to school? Are we fostering an environment where all kids have the chance to succeed when we're giving money to private schools that have admission standards that, 'say we're not going to take all kids'?"

Proponents of the bill said it would give students in unaccredited districts access to a better education.

Holsman's measure to remove the provision from the bill was ultimately shut down.

Wrap: The Senate bill could force unaccredited districts to fund some students' private educations.

Senate President Pro Tem Tom dempsey said the bill could give students another option for a better education.

Actuality:  DEMP1.WAV
Run Time:  00:10
Description: "We are trying to support an additional local option. An additional local option that children and those families do not currently have."

Senator Scott Holsman said forcing unaccredited districts to pay for private educations would bleed their resources, which could mean an even worse education for students who can't get into private schools.

Holsman's measure to remove the provision from the bill was defeated and the Senate took no immediate action on the bill.
